AVID Teachers
Ms. Swetnam
(9th grade teacher)
Hi there! I am Ms. Swetnam. I have taught in San Bernardino for the past 13 years. I started my career here in San Bernardino and I can't imagine teaching anywhere else; our students are amazing. My background is in science, including: Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology. The 2022-2023 school year will mark my 6th year teaching AVID here at Indian Springs.
I was raised in the mountain community of Crestline, but I have had ties to San Bernardino City Unified School District for most of my life. My dad has taught in the district for 30 years, with most of his career spent teaching science and AVID at Middle College High School, and I received my Bachelor's of Science degree at Cal State San Bernardino. I am a proud 2nd generation educator with a passion for pushing my students to be the best they can be.
Mrs. Gillette
(10th-11th grade teacher)
I have been teaching for 10 years, all at Indian Springs High School. Before I was an AVID teacher the subject I taught was math. I earned my Bachelor degree in Math with a focus on teaching and my Masters degree in Science and Technology Education.
I was raised in San Bernardino and earned all my education here. I went to Highland Pacific Elementary School, Del Vallejo Middle School, Pacific High School and Cal State University of San Bernardino. I was an AVID student from middle school through high school. After I graduated high school I became an AVID tutor and later a teacher. I love teaching in the San Bernardino Unified School District and I'm glad that I can give back to my community.
Mr. Gagnon
(11th-12th grade teacher)
I have been teaching in the San Bernardino City Unified School District for 17 years. I taught biology and anatomy before AVID. I was at Shandin Hills for 7 with the last 10 at Indian Springs High School. I attended Marshall Elementary, Golden Valley Middle School, Pacific High School and Cal State San Bernardino. I know the challenges our students face and am proud that I can help them achieve their academic goals. The AVID program is key to being ready to enter college.
